Point of View

As an aid to coherence, you should avoid unnecessary shifts in point of view.

What is Parallelism?

Balance noun with noun, adjective with adjective, prepositional phrase with prepositional phrase, infinitive phrase with infinitive phrase, gerund phrase with gerund phrase, dependent clause with dependent clause, independent clause with independent clause, and so on.

Clear and Logical Construction

Do not omit words that are necessary for clarity.

Pronoun Reference

The antecedent to which a pronoun refers must be clear and unmistakable.

Misplaced Modifiers

Place modifiers near the words they modify. Notice in the following examples how the meaning changes according to the placement of the modifiers.
